We’re only a few days away from new episodes of The Cuphead Show on Netflix! Twelve new episodes chronicling the adventures of Cuphead and Mugman (and Ms. Chalice!) are coming soon to join the 12 already streaming from season 1. But can fans expect to see The Cuphead Show season 3 in the future?
Based on the extremely successful indie run-and-gun game from Studio MDHR, this animated slapstick musical comedy series imitates the rubber hose art style made famous by the golden age of American animation that started in the 1920s and spawned popular characters like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Elmer Fudd and many more.
The show has received positive reviews highlighting its beautiful, fluid animation, zany concepts, vibrant characters and charming musical numbers. You’ll find all of that and much more in the second season, which introduces many other fan-favorite characters and bosses from the game.
The Cuphead Show season 3: Will there be a third season of The Cuphead Show?
Netflix has not officially renewed The Cuphead Show for a season 3, but an initial report from Animation Magazine says that 36 episodes were ordered. If that is true then The Cuphead Show should get a third season consisting of 12 episodes, just like the first two.
For some shows, Netflix orders a larger episode quantity upfront and then divides them into “parts” or seasons. That appears to be the case with The Cuphead Show. Plus, the series appears to be very popular, just like the game it is based on, having been featured as part of Netflix’s recent Geeked Week line-up.
It’s hard to imagine Netflix not giving the show at least one more season, especially now that they’ve pared down significantly with some of their other animated content. I feel like The Cuphead Show could become a staple at Netflix for their animation department. I’d love to see the streaming service order some holiday specials, too.
The Cuphead Show season 2 premieres this Friday, August 19.
