The cast of the Wicked movie is adding a Bridgerton to their midst! Jonathan Bailey, who is known for starring in Netflix’s hit regency romance drama, by Shonda Rhimes, as eldest Bridgerton sibling Anthony, has been cast alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in Jon M. Chu’s “ambitious” two-part adaptation of the classic stage musical, Wicked.
If you weren’t already aware, the stage production is already an adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s novel, which tells the untold story of Galinda (the Good Witch) and Elphaba (Wicked Witch of the West), the witches from The Wizard Of Oz.
With the latest cast announcement, we’re sure you’re wondering who the Bridgerton actor is portraying in the Universel movie, well we’ve got all the latest details below!
Who will Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey play in the Wicked movie?
The Bridgerton actor, who has a background in starring in plenty of stage productions, has been cast as Fiyero in Wicked, the main love interest for Elphaba.
Reports initially circulated that Bailey was in talks for the role, after Variety published an article. But it seemed that speculation was too much for the director who took to Twitter to confirm the news on Wednesday, by writing, “He’s perfect, they’re perfect. They’d be perfect together. Born to be forever…. I am too excited to pretend this hasn’t been happening. We have a Fiyero!”
It’s already been confirmed that Cynthia is starring as Elphaba and Ariana Grande is starring as Glinda in the Universal production of the movie.
It may surprise a few people to learn that the movie has been in production since 2004, and has taken years of development to get it to this stage. According to reports, the first part of Wicked is scheduled to debut on Dec. 25, 2024, while the second part will make its theatrical debut on Christmas Day 2025.
Until the release, we look forward to more first looks and trailers to come!
