Where was new series From Scratch on Netflix filmed?


New Netflix romantic drama From Scratch is based on the true story of series writer Tembi Locke. The tale comes from her memoir of the same name. Now she, along with co-creator Attica Locke, is adapting her personal journey and bringing it to the small screens.

The show stars Zoe Saldaña stars as Amahle “Amy” Wheeler, Eugenio Mastrandrea as Lino,  Danielle Deadwyler as Zora, Keith David, Lucia Sardo, Judith Scott, Paride Benassai, Kellita Smith, Roberta Rigano, and Giacomo Gianniotti.

Joining Tembi and Attica Locke behind the scenes is actress Reese Witherspoon, as she executive produced the project with her production company, Hello Sunshine. There will be a total of eight episodes, scheduled to be released Friday, Oct. 21.

Where was From Scratch on Netflix filmed?

From Scratch partly takes place in Italy, with American student Amahle “Amy” Wheeler making her way there for her study abroad program. As she spends her time in the beautiful country, she meets and falls in love with Sicilian chef, Lino. Their “whirlwind” and “cross-cultural romance” faces many challenges, according to Netflix.

When Lino is faced with health challenges, their two families will come together to support the couple. The streaming service also promises some lighthearted moments “alongside the more serious ones.”

Based on the trailer, the love story takes place in both Italy and America. So did production really go overseas? The answer is, yes!

According to What’s On Netflix, filming began in April 2021 and ended in August of that year. The cameras began rolling in Los Angeles first, then moved to Florence, Italy in July to provide the romantic backdrop.

All eight episodes of From Scratch will be released Friday, Oct. 21, on Netflix.
