I Used to Be Famous release date, synopsis, trailer, and more


A new British film is coming to Netflix this fall, one of the first of the streamer’s U.K. Original Slate, according to Variety. The upcoming movie, I Used to Be Famous, will hit the big screens in select theaters in the U.K. starting Sept. 9 before its Netflix debut.

The comedy drama is Eddie Sternberg’s directorial debut, according to the news outlet. He also co-wrote the script with Zak Klein. Collie McCarthy serves as a producer.

The Netflix production looks and sounds so heartwarming. Here’s what we know about the film ahead of its release.

I Used to Be Famous will be released Friday, Sept. 16 on Netflix. New releases begin streaming on the platform at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET.

I Used to Be Famous synopsis

The story follows Vince, a member of what used to be the hottest boy band around. But now, the troubled former popstar is alone and desperate. His dream is to make a comeback. And so he starts to perform in the streets of Peckham, a working-class and culturally-diverse neighborhood in South-East London, with the hopes someone will listen.

He ends up doing an impromptu jam with Stevie, a young autistic drummer with an incredible gift for rhythm. Their session sparks an unexpected friendship between the two misunderstood musicians. Together, they form a unique bond through the power of music.
