Heartstopper is a new British teen drama based on a graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. The teen drama is likely to attract anyone who liked To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before or Never Have I Ever. Now that a Heartstopper season 2 has been confirmed, we’ve been keeping track of every new piece of information released about the upcoming second season.
Starring Joe Locke and Kit Connor, the eight-episode first season follows Charlie Spring (Locke) and Nick Nelson (Connor) who become friends when they share the same class. But that friendship soon turns into something more as they spend time together. And while Charlie is openly gay (and has been bullied for it), Nick is just discovering that he may not be straight.
The show was created and written by the author of the series and based on early reviews, it was bound to be a huge hit. The books were incredibly cute, heartwarming, and beautiful and it looks like the creators got those vibes into the show as well. When an author is a part of creating a series based on their books, that’s usually a good sign.
The cast includes Joe Locke, Kit Connor, Momo Yeung, Joseph Balderrama, Sebastian Croft, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Jenny Walser, Rhea Norwood and Fisayo Akinade. Now without further ado, here’s everything we know about Heartstopper season 2!
UPDATED 09/22/22 with new casting and filming news
Heartstopper season 2 filming
On Sept. 22, Netflix announced that principal photography on Heartstopper season 2 had officially started! What’s on Netflix previously reported that production would take place in London. One of the locations would be Twickenham Film Studios. The news outlets also reported that filming would wrap on Dec. 20. However, an official wrap date hasn’t been revealed yet. So we’ll have to take this information with a grain of salt.
Heartstopper season 2 release date predictions
Netflix has not announced a release date yet. However, we’re happy to share our release date predictions. The first season was filmed from April 2021 through June 2021. The show came out about 10 months later and if you give Netflix at least a month or two Netflix to promote the show (if they are going to promote at all), post-production took about eight months.
If we go by that timeline, with production on Heartstopper season 2 starting in September 2022, we could be looking at a release around the fall or winter of 2023. If they stick to the April release date, we wouldn’t get it until 2024. As a fan, that hurts to say.
However, we’re hoping the post-production process can be shortened to about six to eight months. This way, we could see Heartstopper season 2 in the spring or summer of 2023. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Sahar is described as a 16-year-old of British South Asian heritage. In addition, they are in year 11 at Higgs secondary school. What could Heartstopper season 2 be about?
The plot for season 2 has not been revealed yet. However, there have been rumors that the second season will be based on volume three of the graphic novels. The first season was based on volumes one and two, so it would make sense if the second season is based on volume three.
Here’s the official synopsis for volume three via Amazon below:
Charlie didn’t think Nick could ever like him back, but now they’re officially boyfriends. Nick has even found the courage to come out to his mom. But coming out isn’t something that happens just once, and Nick and Charlie try to figure out when to tell their friends that they’re dating. Not being out to their classmates gets even harder during a school trip to Paris. As Nick and Charlie’s feelings get more serious, they’ll need each other more than ever.
Heartstopper season 2 episode count
The exact episode count is unknown at the moment. However, we’re expecting at least eight episodes like the first season. Maybe the teen series will be given two extra episodes. Fingers crossed!
