6 best Netflix shows to watch (and 3 to skip) in September 2022

The fall television season will be getting a slower start than normal on Netflix, with only a couple high-profile Netflix shows returning with new seasons. But in the absence of a summer-level release schedule this September, there are so many new shows to either watch or skip.

In August, Netflix released new seasons of fan-favorite Netflix shows like Never Have I Ever and Locke & Key and debuted new series such as The Sandman, Echoes, and Partner Track. September brings fewer established series but plenty of newcomers to try on for size.

The month’s biggest releases include new seasons of Cobra Kai and Fate: The Winx Saga, but there are handfuls of new unscripted content heading for our watch lists and a few new series that Netflix fans will be wondering if they should check out or skip altogether.

Best Netflix shows September 2022

Here are the highlights featured in the long list of Netflix shows coming in September 2022 as well as some titles you can save for a rainy day, beginning below with the huge hit Cobra Kai.

Cobra Kai season 5

Watch! It’s finally time for a new season of Cobra Kai, and the fifth season just might be the best one yet. Season 5 picks up after the events of the All Valley Tournament and all of the ensuing changes. Cobra Kai season 5 will surely top the charts when it premieres on Sept. 9 and be one of the best Netflix shows to premiere in 2022.

Devil in Ohio

Watch! Following the twisted mystery limited series Echoes in August, Netflix keeps the limited series ball rolling with thriller limited series Devil in Ohio starring Bones actress Emily Deschanel. The series centers on a psychiatrist who helps a cult escapee and finds her own world turning upside down as a result. Don’t miss a second of the sure-to-be enthralling Devil in Ohio when it premieres on Sept. 2.

Dated & Related

Skip! Hot on the heels of Netflix’s hit dating competition series Too Hot to Handle and Love is Blind, a newbie comes to the streamer with an extremely curious title. Dated & Related will have eyebrows raising when it debuts on Sept. 2, but no one who’s related is dating. In the series, siblings will join each other on their respective dates to find “the one” and have a say. Check it out if you can stand the cringe-worthy awkwardness or pass if you can’t.

Fakes

Watch! A new teen comedy is coming to Netflix on Sept. 2, and if you loved July’s dark teen comedy Boo, Bitch, then you definitely have to watch Fakes. In the 10-episode first season, two teenage girls accidentally create a lucrative fake ID empire until it all comes crumbling down and threatens their friendship. It’s sure to be a fun and unexpected binge-watch!

Fate: The Winx Saga season 2

Fate: The Winx Saga season 2

Skip! It’s be nearly two years since the January 2021 premiere of Fate: The Winx Saga, but the second season finally arrives on Sept. 16. In season 2, the Otherworld faces a new threat as fairies start to go missing into the night. Dive back into the seven-episode second season if you’re already fan, but Fate might not be for those who aren’t already on board.

Designing Miami

Watch! This summer, Netflix has gotten deeper in to the unscripted space with even more home improvement content. Instant Dream Home was a hit in August, and September looks to have another success with Designing Miami. A married couple with differing tastes in interior design come together to create memorable spaces for their clients in Miami. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Add it to your queue on Sept. 21!

You’re Nothing Special

Watch! Sept. 2 is jam-packed with new Netflix shows, and You’re Nothing Special will be another great addition to your watch list. The Spanish-language teen series centers on a teenage girl whose average existence in a new small town becomes significantly more fascinating when rumors around school suggest she has magical powers. You’re Nothing Special could be something special.

Heartbreak High

Skip! There’s a lot of teen drama going around on Netflix in September. Heartbreak High is an Australian series that’s a reboot of the popular 1994 series of the same name. While it looks like it could be another great entry in the streamer’s long line of teen series, those who aren’t on board with the utmost of angst might want to pass on Heartbreak High when it premieres on Sept. 14.

Dynasty season 5

Watch! Even though it’s not a Netflix original series (in the states, at least), we would be remiss to exclude Dynasty season 5 from this list typically reserved for originals. The final season of the fan-favorite CW soap arrives on Netflix on Sept. 24, and fans around the world will be checking in to see how the story ends for the Carringtons. Do not skip the juicy final season!
