6 best Netflix shows to watch (and 3 to skip) in October 2022

For most, fall is the best time of the year because of the cooler weather, cozy movies to watch, and all things pumpkin spiced. But it’s also the time of the year when tons of new shows premiere and favorites return, including so many of the best Netflix shows.

October officially kicks off the Netflix and Chills lineup, which boasts handfuls of can’t-miss spooky movies and shows, some of them making their debuts in the month leading up to Halloween.

But which Netflix shows coming in October 2022 are worth watching when they’re released, and which ones should you save for a content drought? We’re sorting through the biggest new release highlights and determining what’s a must-watch and what’s a must-watch-later.

Here are the six best Netflix shows to watch and the three better left skipped for the month of October, beginning below with the romantic drama limited series From Scratch.

From Scratch

Watch! Based on the memoir of the same name by Tembi Locke, From Scratch stars Zoe Saldaña as student Amahle “Amy” Wheeler, who travels abroad to Sicily. While she may have been in Italy to study, she happens to find love with a chef, Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea). The series will be both romantic and tear-jerking, and it’s certainly going to strum those heartstrings on Oct. 21.

The Watcher

Watch! Following the surprise release of Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story in September, Ryan Murphy has another series coming to Netflix. Based on the chilling true story, The Watcher centers on a family moving into their suburban dream home in New Jersey, only to have a stalker harass the whole neighborhood. Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, and Jennifer Coolidge lead the excellent cast in the series that premieres on Oct. 13.

Love is Blind season 3

Skip! Love is Blind returns for its third season on Oct. 19, right on the heels of the release of Love is Blind: After the Altar season 2’s release in September. If you’re a diehard fan of the dating reality competition series, it’s going to be a mainstay on your watch list. But if you’re looking to extend your spooky season celebration, skip the three-week release for a binge in November.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

Watch! Perhaps the centerpiece of the Netflix and Chills lineup, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is an eight-episode, four-day event full of horror and magic. The anthology series features eight standalone episodes featuring two original stories by Guillermo del Toro. Packed with stars and brimming with unique storytelling, Cabinet of Curiosities is a can’t miss title for all horror fans, and it all begins with the first two episodes on Oct. 25.

The Midnight Club

Watch! Based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Pike, Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club arrives on Oct. 7 to set the stage for Cabinet of Curiosities. The series centers on a group of eight young patients in hospice who gather at midnight to swap scary stories. They make a pact to send each other signs in the event of their deaths, and when one of them passes, weird things start happening. If you’re a fan of Flanagan’s past work with Netflix, The Midnight Club is not to be missed!

The Mole

Skip! Netflix decided to add to its sprawling collection of unscripted and reality content with a reboot of ABC’s 2001 game show The Mole. The original series lasted for five seasons until 2008 and will return for its sixth on the streamer. In the series, 12 contestants work to increase the prize money, but one player is secretly working as “the Mole” to sabotage their monetary gain. The Mole won’t be for everyone, and time will tell if it’s a hit.

Watch! Finally, it’s time for Derry Girls fans in the United States and other territories to watch the third and final season. Derry Girls season 3 already finished airing in May 2022 across the pond, but that surely won’t stop the series from going out with a bang when the final season starts streaming on Netflix on Oct. 7.

Easy-Bake Battle

Watch! There are so many new and intriguing food competition (and just food shows in general) coming to Netflix throughout the rest of the year, including a Halloween-themed seventh season of Nailed It! and newcomer Easy-Bake Battle. Hosted by Queer Eye star Antoni Porowski, the series finds home cooks battling out with quick and easy meals. Sign us up! The new series premieres on Oct. 12.

Conversations with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes

Skip! You’ve probably had your fill of content on the serial killer with the newly released Ryan Murphy-produced series starring Evan Peters. If that’s the case, feel free to pass on watching the next collection of Conversations with a Killer when it drops on Oct. 7.
